Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) – Standard

The Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) is the UK’s recognised benchmark for professional minibus driver training. Designed and managed by the Community Transport Association (CTA), the programme equips drivers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to transport passengers safely, legally, and responsibly.

Whether you’re driving as part of your role or supporting your community as a volunteer, MiDAS Standard helps ensure you’re prepared for the responsibilities of minibus driving.

What you’ll learn:

  • Safe, confident, and defensive driving techniques
  • Driver licence requirements and legal responsibilities
  • Essential road safety and driving legislation
  • Daily vehicle checks and roadworthiness inspections
  • Passenger safety and duty of care
  • Journey planning and risk management
  • How to respond effectively to breakdowns, incidents, and emergencies

Upon successful completion of both the theory and practical assessments, drivers receive a nationally recognised MiDAS certificate, demonstrating their competence to operate a minibus safely and professionally.

Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) – Accessible

MiDAS Accessible is an enhanced module designed for drivers who transport passengers with disabilities, mobility challenges, or additional support needs.

Building on the MiDAS Standard qualification, this specialist training focuses on creating safe, inclusive, and comfortable journeys for every passenger, while giving drivers the confidence to use accessibility equipment correctly and provide appropriate support.

What you’ll learn:

  • Disability awareness and inclusive passenger support
  • Assisting passengers with a range of mobility and accessibility needs
  • Safe use of wheelchair lifts, ramps, and other accessibility equipment
  • Best practice for boarding and alighting passengers
  • Manual handling and passenger assistance techniques
  • Safe loading and securing of wheelchairs
  • Correct transportation of mobility aids and specialist equipment
  • Promoting passenger comfort, dignity, and independence throughout the journey

This qualification is particularly valuable for organisations that provide transport for schools, community groups, healthcare services, and individuals with additional support needs. It helps ensure every journey is not only safe and compliant, but welcoming and accessible for all.
